On this day in 1944, over 6,000 Roma, imprisoned in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp bravely resisted Nazi forces who came to liquidate the so-called “Gypsy camp” (Zigeunerlager). Though the camp was ultimately destroyed later, their courageous defiance delayed the atrocity—and became a powerful symbol of resistance and dignity in the face of genocide.
At PAL Network, we honour their memory by continuing the fight for Roma rights, dignity, and inclusion through our European initiatives—especially the ROMDIEM project.
🎯 ROMDIEM Project seeks to:
🔹 Preserve and share the testimonies of Roma Holocaust survivors and descendants
🔹 Raise awareness about the Roma Genocide—often forgotten in mainstream narratives
🔹 Empower the new Roma generation through education, cultural recognition, and community investment
At Pal Network we remember. We resist. We act.
